Most people really want to make customs happen at a competitive level, and those who argue against it do so mainly from a logistical standpoint. Items were tested for years in the Melee scene (and in casual fisticuffs since 64), and by then most ppl had enough experience or common sense to know they weren't well suited for a competitive environment.Д¬ustoms are a completely different animal because of the simple fact that they have widespread community support. I don't think customs could ever be looked at the same way as items.most competitive players just knew from the start that items were a bad idea. At that point, why am I not just running time mode? Time mode timeout is the only viable strategy, but that's the point of it. I don't want to see continuous lowering of the time limit making timeouts continually more appealing just because Smash 4 is 'slow' and 'can't ever finish on time.' We just keep making timeouts a better and better strategy to the point where its the most dominant one. It's a strategy artificially put in the game for logistical reasons, and lowering the time limit makes it stronger. In a perfect world, the timer wouldn't even be on and timeouts wouldn't be a viable strategy because it wouldn't be a strategy at all. Now my main issues with timeouts is actually that they aren't actually part of the game, and they are only a viable strategy because tournaments need to finish on time. Take that one with a grain of salt because honestly I don't even know what to believe.
